The Economist, June 2010: sovereign debt is only part of the problem. Debt has risen across the economy, from consumers on credit cards, to industrial companies borrowing for expansion and financial companies using debt to buy risky assets. The interactive graphic shows the overall debt levels for a wide range of countries, based on data supplied by the McKinsey Global Institute. The debt is also broken down by sector. These figures will worry owners of government bonds since the 2008 crisis showed that governments may be forced to stand behind private sector debt.

While waiting for the 2 Nov. 2010 ballot on Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana, the Los Angeles Times publishes this interactive map of the dispensaries in the Hollywood area.
The initiative would have allowed adults 21 and older to grow and possess marijuana, but it also would have challenged the federal drug legislation, by giving cities and counties the power to authorize commercial cultivation and retail sales. Failed: 54%-46%.
