The Vajont dam tragedy  

In 1963 a landslide into the Vajont reservoir produced a wave measuring 50 million cubic metres, which overtopped the dam and submerged the villages in the valley below. Around two thousand people died in this disaster waiting to happen. Fifty years after the fact La Stampa interviews the survivors and relives the event, the emotions and the places, while tackling grief and the need to remember. [eb-hj]
